So who’s this Bill Britt guy, anyways? And why should I care?
Bill is a former city manager out of Raleigh, North Carolina, who became involved as an independent Amway distributor in the Dexter Yager organization more than 30 years ago. Bill Britt immediately had a grasp for the Amway business model and has been breaking sales and growth records almost since the day he became involved. More than 2 million distributors are involved in Amway today as the direct result of Bill Britt building a strong foundation in his business more than 30 years ago.

Around Bill Britt – there are income predictions galore. For three years starting in 2002, I was an active Amway distributor (then known as Quixtar) at which time I had the privilege of attending several events where Bill Britt was a keynote speaker. I heard income speculations ranging from ridiculous to outrageous. (The highest rumors were upwards of $300 million annually). (As a brief note – I am not in any way involved with the Amway corporation today, and this can in no way be construed as an income claim – I’m merely reporting what I heard.)
The loyalty of Bill Britt’s Amway team is unsurpassed in the MLM profession. For example, in 2005 I attended an event called Free Enterprise Day in Long Beach, California where Bill Britt was the keynote speaker. The room roared with applause as he walked on the stage, and when he spoke they were all silent – with tape recorders running and notes flying. He was revered as an icon by everyone there – almost like I imagine the pharaohs of ancient Egypt were worshiped – it was EXTREMELY interesting to watch from a detached perspective. In Bill Britt’s ranting, I was so caught up with the atmospheric enthusiasm that I almost didn’t realize that I don’t even know if he mentioned the Amway business at all…
The methods used by Bill in building his business are those of traditional Network Marketing – Home Meetings, Hotel Meetings, and Weekend Events. Primarily, the foundation for his business was laid in the late 60’s.
He also has developed one of the largest and most profitable personal development companies in the world – each week sending out millions of tapes, books, and training materials to his downline organization. In fact, there have been estimates that up to 95% of Bill’s income comes from his MLM tools business.
Bill’s teachings seem to resonate with a World that has almost passed away – he speaks of limited government, family values, and the possibilities one can accomplish by having a dream.
In the last 15 years, the business building techniques that the Bill Britt organization has been using for 30 years have started to become antiquated, and as a result the growth of Amway suffered in the United States (Bill has somewhere between 30-50% of the entire Amway organization on his team).
When I was in Amway, the team growth strategy seemed to change every week or two – and as a result it was an EXTREME struggle to grow my business – as I did not have the added advantage of being a distributor for 20 or 30 years.
As a result of this massive frustration, I eventually quit the Amway business in favor of a more streamlined business system that is more adapted to a 21st century marketplace – and the results have been nothing short of miraculous. However, I still have great respect for Bill Britt, his organization, and their accomplishments over the last 30 years. My biggest insight I took from getting to know Bill Britt is this:
