BUTTERNUT PRACTICE BLOCK

Butternut is one of the best woods for traditional carvings which are to be finished natural. The light brown color with distinct grain pattern as well as soft texture and uniform density make butternut perfect for antique shore birds, decoys and animals, or other carvings where an antique look is desired. Some of our butternut may contain small pin holes from borers. While the borers are gone, the holes remain and the wood has an old appearance. Our practice block is 1 1/2″ square by 10″ long and is sold individually.

To me butternut is the best wood for carving. It is easy to work and it is easy to paint.

5 Stars Blocks of wood, no need for fancy
Ordered exactly what I expected. 2 blocks of wood so my boyfriend could practice whittling before he gets into shapes. Shipping was fast.

Told boyfriend he was getting sticks in his stocking and that’s exactly what he got. Bought the whittling kit on Amazon too to go along with his “sticks”.

5 Stars Excellent for Carving
This is excellent for carving and great size for a beginner – very happy with this for teaching the skills to my student.
