4 Stars Good Iron
Here is what I found about the leaking problem. Rowenta means it when they say empty the iron after use. If you leave water in the iron, it will leak out all over. If you put water in before the iron is hot, it will leak all over. (metal expands with heat?) If I empty the iron after use and don’t refill it until the iron has heated up, I get the greatest steam I have ever had with an iron. It does not get as hot as the previous Black and Decker I had. There is no automatic shutoff which is great. Anyone who sews needs an iron to stay on for prolonged periods. It is heavy enough so I don’t have to push down on the iron but not so heavy I get tired of using it when doing a lot of ironing. As I like cotton and linen garments, I do a lot of ironing. If I ever find the perfect iron…….
1 Star Another LEAKING Rowenta
This is the THIRD Rowenta I have purchased. After reading customer reviews, I decided to upgrade from my first Rowenta. Spent almost $100, and it also leaked. Thought perhaps getting one without auto shut-off would help, I use my iron all day, every day in my business. My third Rowenta was one wihout auto shut-off. It was also even pricier- over $100. Once again, a leaking Rowenta. And the leaks aren’t the only issues. The second one made a nasty popping and crackling sound as though it were on fire, they replaced it free under warranty. The replacement one started leaking within a year. None of them have made it without developing leaks before the two year mark! I have hard water so I have always bought spring water- no help there, they developed leaks anyway. Not only would I not recommend this Rownta, I would not recommend any Rowenta.
5 Stars “Some Like it Hot”
Is is possible to love an iron? I received this iron 5 days ago. I am using it for quilting & I love the steam feature. My quilting teacher recommended it. I have to admit, I had never heard of Rowenta irons!! I was hesitant because of a lot of negative reviews here. Especially regarding “leaking water”. But reading the product instructions is CRITICAL to correct operation. It does not use 100% distilled water! I am using spring water to prevent dripping. So far, so good.
I actually enjoy ironing & with this baby it is a breeze. Nice movement, large water reservoir, no auto shut-off, long cord, etc. Someone stated that the temperature dial is a bit awkward which I agree with. But in the grand scheme of things this is a minor issue.
NB I paid $94.99 3 weeks ago & now Amazon is selling it for $76.99 from a different vendor! No fair.
1 Star Rowenta used to be great.. but this is a HORRIBLE iron
I’ve used Rowenta irons for years. In January 2009 it was time for a new iron, and I bought this DX8900 professional iron. I really wish I hadn’t – and too bad I already disposed of my old iron.
This Rowenta iron leaks SEVERELY from the base in the upright position after just a few months of use. The last two times I’ve used it, it has been almost unbearable. I’ve had to let it lie flat on my board in order to get any kind of use out if at all without it inundating my clothes with water after tilting it from the base to the ironing position. From what I have seen in a few other reviews, this is happening to other people as well, and even after replacements and “repairs”.
I will not be buying another Rowenta iron anytime soon.. and am now about to search Amazon for a quality iron from another vendor that doesn’t leak all over everything! Seriously, it was leaking puddles! I never thought I would ever write a horrible review for a Rowenta iron, but this one is just plain HORRIBLE. And for the price and the ‘professional’ labeling and the Rowenta name, that is simply unacceptable.
5 Stars Rowenta DX8900 wonder
I purchased this iron because I wanted one that would iron my sewing projects and also the few clothes that wrinkle like mad. It’s a wonder, light, easy to use, easy to fill, and the wrinkles are gone. Too bad one can’t use it on one’s skin. But it’s great for all my projects. Easy to lift too. And you decide when it’s time for it to turn off. Nice!!!
