4 Stars Great for Bento
I’m using these for bento, along with and/or to divide a mini-loaf pan – SO great, SO green(5 stars)! I’m also using them to transport and serve preschool snacks – cute, perfectly sized, maximizes the space in my Pyrex Portable insulated food tote (5 stars). I did make cupcakes in them and liked the “fill line” (5 stars). They are totally non-stick and certainly sturdy enough to fill, etc (5 stars). BUT, I didn’t think the cupcakes came out square at all, they just puffed out into messy circles, so why bother (2 stars)?
The not-very-square shape of the finish product brings my rating from 5 to 4 stars.
NOTE: since they pop off (vs. peeling off), serving a frosted cupcake in the cup for cuteness sake MAY result in cupcakes jumping out and landing frosting down on your lap (this only happened once, but I’d hate to have an entire birthday party’s worth of kids crying over spilled cake!)
NOTE: colors were lighter in person, light blue and “grass” or “Kiwi” green.
NOTE: since they recommend letting the cake cool in the cup for quite a while, and most cupcakes are made two dozen at a time, consider buying two sets for quicker turn around.
3 Stars Difficult to wash, but makes fun square cupcakes
These work well and do what they’re supposed to. They seem to distribute the heat well and I haven’t had any problems baking muffins and cupcakes in these. I do recommend placing them all on a baking sheet for easier transport in and out of the oven. While we were renovating our kitchen, we also used these to bake muffins in the toaster oven, since I couldn’t find a tiny muffin pan to fit. However, they are difficult to wash as the fluted edges tend to get cupcake crumbs stuck in them and it’s hard to scrub out all the tiny crevices. They’d be better if they just had smooth sides – they really don’t need the ruffled border just to *look* like paper cups.
5 Stars Awesome!
These rock! I am using them mostly for freezing baby food. Ice cube trays were just too small. These work great! They freeze well, I can use exactly the amount I need: 3 cups or all 12. And the size is perfect for my one year old. The go in the dishwasher very weel: just put them sideways or they collect water
5 Stars Perfect for Bento!
I bought these for use in my bento and they are the perfect size. I use them to separate dry food from moist and strong flavors for bland. If you want them for something like a bento then these are perfect.
5 Stars Great for portion control
I have used these a few times now, and really like them. Rather than making a whole cake or pan of brownies, I can just mix up enough batter to fill a few of these and bake them in my toaster oven. It helps with portion control, and I don’t have half of a cake getting stale (or tempting me) on the counter. They are easy to clean and just the right size for a snack.
